Language of Silencing: Civil Liberties Exhibition

Over the past 5 months, our Civil Liberties Fellows have been working hard to create a 7ft-tall interactive book. This project reflects on the history of Japanese-American incarceration during WWII, while drawing parallels to the fellows’ own experiences as immigrants and refugees. Through their work, the fellows explored how past injustices are echoed in today’s struggles, especially with the recent barrage of executive orders targeting our communities.

Join us on Saturday, April 12 at San Diego Central Library for the opening reveal of this project, as we engage in conversation about how the events leading up to thousands of Japanese-Americans being forcefully relocated to concentration camps mirrors the tactics being used against immigrants and refugees today.
