With support from the California Arts Council’s

JUMP StArts grant, The AjA Project presents a series

of photographs created by students at 37ECB. Students

identified an issue in their community and used photography to either raise awareness about their topic, or to celebrate the

impactful work taking place in service of their community.

The program began virtually and transitioned to include in person workshops in April where some students had the opportunity to work with DSLR cameras. Students explored symbolism and abstraction as a strategy, applied different techniques and perspectives when documenting their subjects, and considered framing and composition in the images produced.

“The goal of my work is to express some of the support that we can give to our communities.”

— Aries, 37ECB Student
