Free and open to the public workshops, conversations, and presentations as part of a City of San Diego public art commission for Mira Mesa Community Park, developed by Parkeology in collaboration with the AjA Project

 

MONDAY 7/12  Mira Mesa Community Roundtable

  • Lee Ann Kim, founding Executive Director of Pacific Arts Movement

  • Pam Stevens, author of Mira Mesa, a photo history of the community

  • Jeff Stevens, Chair, Mira Mesa Community Planning Group

  • Sabrina L. Bazzo, MPH, Executive Director, SD Academy of Family Physicians

TUESDAY 7/13  Movement Workshop with Choreographer Jay Carlon

7-8 PM via Zoom (registration required)

Choreographer Jay Carlon leads us on a movement based workshop to connect with Mira Mesa Community Park in new ways. Born and raised on California’s Central Coast, Carlon’s work is inspired by growing up the youngest of 12 in a Filipino, Catholic, and agricultural migrant-working family.

Learn about Mira Mesa's wildlife past and present with Bradley Tsalyuk, Exhibit Developer at the Nat!

THURSDAY 7/15 Kumeyaay Cosmology 

7-8 PM via Zoom (registration required)

Learn about the Kumeyaay worldview, observatories, constellations and stories with Michael Connolly Miskwish, author of Maay Uuyow: Kumeyaay Cosmology, and SDSU Professor. Michael is a citizen of the Campo Kumeyaay Nation.

8-10 PM IN PERSON Westmore portion of Mira Mesa Community Park

Stargaze at the Park and explore local astronomy!


SATURDAY 7/17  What does Mira Mesa mean to you? All Ages Art Workshop! 

10-1 IN PERSON at Mira Mesa Community Park, by the Recreation Center

A new amphitheater-like sculpture is planned for Mira Mesa Community Park! Inviting everyone from kids to seniors to bring photographs or objects that are important to them and Mira Mesa. Using cyanotype, a printmaking process using the sun, we will transform our memories into works of art to inform imagery for a permanent sculpture for generations to come.
